Army inaugurates Forward Operation Base to secure the Nation's borders

- A Forward Operation Base (FOB) has been inaugurated by Nigerian Army in Daura Katsina
- It's part of a measure to secure Nigeria's borders
- The FOB in Daura is a part of the “Order of Battle” approved by the Army Council in 2016
The Nigerian Army has built a Forward Operation Base (FOB) to further secure the Nation's borders to neighbouring countries.
NAIJ.com gathered that the FOB was named after President Muhammadu Buhari and built in his hometown, Daura, Katsina state.
The Chief of Army Staff, LT. Gen. Tukur Buratai, inaugurated the FOB on Friday, May 19.
Buratai said: “It is part of the re-organisation in the Nigerian Army. In 2016, the Army Council approved the new order of battle.

“This is part of the order of battle of the Nigerian Army to have an FOB in this place – Daura.
“So it is the overall review of the deployment and the strategic consideration of the Nigerian army and the military; in taking care of strategic locations by deploying such facility here."

When asked if there was any threat at the Daura axis, Buratai said: “Well, that is the analysis.

“You know, this Boko Haram terrorist group has been moving all over the place, especially along the borders. So, it is part of the consideration, it is part of the threat analysis."
He said there is the need to take care of the border areas right from the Lake Chad through Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, up to Sokoto.

The Chief of Army Staff also said the establishment of the FOB was part of the strategic consideration, based on threat analysis.
He added that more of such facility would be set up in the North East.
Prior to the inauguration, Buratai was at the Palace of His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Umar Faruk Umar, the Emir of Daura for a courtesy call.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has said it was yet to arrest any persons or group of persons in connection with the alleged plot by politicians to infiltrate the army for political reasons.
The director of army public relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, when responding to questions on whether the army has arrested any individuals or whether its officers were romancing politicians for undisclosed reasons as alleged by its boss, said that the military had not made any arrests on the issue.
