Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar has commissioned an oxygen generating facility at the Air Force Base Yola.
Speaking at the event held on Monday, the Air Force chief underscored the significance of liquid oxygen plant to the success of air operations in the North East.
He noted that apart from critical military application, the gas plant would produce oxygen for civilian purposes in hospitals across Adamawa State.
"Oxygen is a critical requirement for survival of fighter pilots during high altitude operations. It is also an essential requirement at health facilities. Sometimes a lot of resources are expended in acquiring oxygen from as far places as Kaduna and Kano", he stated.
He noted that unavailability of oxygen sometimes hindered air operations, saying it was out of necessity that the present leadership of the Air Force deemed it necessary to set up the gas plant.
The giant mullti-purpose plant has the capacity to produce oxygen and nitrogen at 99.7% and 99.9% respectively.
In his remark, Governor Muhammad Jibrilla commended the leadership of Nigerian Air Force for being innovative, saying the oxygen plant would no doubt benefit the people of the state.
