Super Falcons defender, Onome Ebi has urged Nigerian football author-ities to do more and ensure that female football does not fall into retrogression any further in the country.
Ebi was speaking in Lagos yesterday at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Ajegunle, venue of the two-day football tourna-ment she organised with childhood friend, Ngozi Onyebuchi Okeke. She argued that the women’s game was dying slowly in the country and something must have to be done to reverse the trend.

“This is why I have taken it upon myself to organise this tournament. It is for boys and girls. I have to start from Ajegunle, that is where I am from.
“Most importantly there are so many football talents here waiting to be discovered and it gives me joy that we are doing this here,” said Ebi who is still nursing the broken arm she suffered at the Africa Women Cup of Nations where she helped the Super Falcons to their eighth win of the title.
She added that other countries are catching up with Nigeria and it was the major reason the country has to wake up and put in place developmental programmes that will help the women’s game to grow beyond conquering Africa.
